Charyn Harris-Rodriguez

Charyn Harris-Rodriguez (she/her) was raised in Mt. Vernon, NY amd has been a resident of Los Angeles for over 30 years.

A career musician, Charyn has had a storied career touring and working with a range of artists from Al. B. Sure! to Barry White, The Cranberries and Macy Gray. She spent over 2 decades in the nonprofit sector and is a Professor of Music Industry Studies.

Charyn also has an unusual menopause story. She gave birth at 40 after being told that she had a number of issues including fibroids and polycystic ovaries. Now in her early 60's, she still has fibroids, polycystic ovaries and fairly normal cycle, normal hormone levels, has no hot flashes to date, and has not entered full menopause. Her condition prompted her to become a source to help for her many friends that she witnessed having intense symptoms.

After hosting a series of support groups, she started diving into the differences and disparities among Black and Brown women. Even as a Black woman, the only baselines for perimenopause and beyond did not apply to her.

Charyn is also in the 5% of women who experience late onset menopause. As she began her journey to be of service, she found herself inadvertantly connecting with the top medical professionals in th field, who encouraged her to consider taking a more robust role in this sector. Charyn has since received her certification and launched Melanated Menopause, which provides access to culturally rooted resources.

You can also find Charyn on SIRIUSXM as host of "The Charyn Harris Experience" airing on Studio 54/Channel 54 where she interviews people who moved the needle in music, lifestyle and culture.
